QUOTED $10.5K, PAID ~$21K! THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM! PLAN ON LOSING YOUR ITEMS AND SPENDING MORE THAN DOUBLE THE QUOTED AMOUNT BEFORE ALL IS SAID AND DONE!!!!

My unfortunate dealing with these companies began in early FEB of this year. In late JAN, I was selected for a position in Hawaii that required relocation to the area with the caveat that I would need to be on the island within a few weeks. After talking with my wife, we decided to take the position in Hawaii (with a 2/24/2025 start date) and started looking for moving companies to facilitate the move.

One thing worth mentioning before I transcribe my hellish moving experience is that I have a chronic neurological condition that limits prolonged movements of my legs/feet and was the primary reason we chose to have a moving company deal with the heavy lifting of our household items. Another thing worth mentioning is that this was my first major move since my PCS to South Korea in 2001 during my time in the U.S. Army and the GOVT handled my expenses for that move, so I really had no experience with hiring a moving company prior to this.

Matthew Sellars (A Plus Moving Group) was the first individual I spoke with after completing my contact information to receive a quote for the move. He asked me for a detailed, comprehensive list of every large item, appliance, and number of boxes that we would need to move overseas and the timeframe in which we would need them delivered. He and I went through this list at least three times (I even projected 10 more boxes than what was expected to be sent to be on the safe side) before I was given roughly a $10.5K quote for the move. I was told that they would be able to deliver in 3 weeks. Competitor quotes for the same items/timeframe came in between $12-14K, so we made the unfortunate decision to go with A Plus Moving. Evidently, Matt is the sales representative that collects the first portion of the fee that is paid. Matt explained to me that payment for the move would need to be broken out in 3 payments. The first payment for this move was $3,483.75 on 2/14/2025 and this amount is what Matt received. The second and supposedly final payment would be split out with 70% paid when the movers picked up our items and 30% would be paid when the items were delivered. I agreed to these terms and our items were scheduled to be picked up on 2/23/2025.

On the day our items were to be picked up, Rita Moreno called to inform me that our items would now be picked up on 2/24/2025 morning. The following morning, the movers had still not shown up and I received a second call from Rita explaining that the movers would not be there until that evening. I told her that this was my first day of work and this was unacceptable. She said that she would talk to “top management” about a discount for the late pickup (Matt Sellars would also reference “needing to talk to top management” later when I voiced my complaints).

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $21000

Whatever you do please DO NOT GO WITH THEM! This moving experience has been such a nightmare, and it was only a one bedroom. As soon as you give them a deposit over the phone and lock in the contract, they will stop picking up your calls. One of the worst communication I have ever had. They never gave me info on when they will pick up, in-transit, or when it would be dropped off. I was told everything the day of. Not only are their estimates completely inaccurate; I was only able to take half of my items for the price they quoted. I was told I had room for 25 boxes and I was only allowed 13 boxes according to “my space allotted”. I even bought boxes that were in accordance to their exact measurements allowed. They wanted to charge me extra for the rest of my items that were already quoted. Not only did they say I have “30 day free storage”, I had to pay for that when they dropped off my items. They will 100% charge you extra when they pickup or drop off your items. They are such a SCAM.

Worst part is..I paid for a full service for them to pick up and deliver “door to door” and assemble my furniture, and they left all my boxes OUTSIDE my building. Their reasoning was “We just came from a job that was very tiring and we cannot take your boxes to your apartment, also they were running late to their next drop off”. I had to carry everything by myself to my 5th floor apartment.

Also as you can see from the pictures they ruined all of my belongings. The LOST screws to my bed frame, broke very durable shoe boxes, ruined my mattress (It had 2 plastic protective coverings), broke my plates, also punctured and ripped open my vacuum seal bags.

NO MATTER HOW AFFORDABLE THEY ARE SAVE THE HASSLE AND DO NOT GO WITH THEM. YOUR LIFE WILL BE A NIGHTMARE! I have always chosen the affordable option and for the first time in my life I wish I went with the more expensive company, I would have paid so much more not to deal with them.

TLDR: They will scam you for more money and hold your items as collateral, they will ruin your items, they will not communicate after you give them their deposit. Whatever you do, please learn from my mistakes and DO NOT disregard the negative reviews like I did when looking up this company. DO NOT, NO MATTER WHAT CHOOSE THIS MOVING COMPANY. Worse experience of my life.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2500

This was the absolute worst move I have ever encountered. They are a broker company and basically will give you a quote, will take your money and then will hire another company to come in and do the job. However, the low ball the estimate and the quote and when the company comes, they say it will cost a lot more than what was originally estimated by them. They will do nothing about it, will not refund you your money and will not answer the phone or help out in any way. Instead of my move costing me $4,000 as the estimated, it ended up costing me $11,000.

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AT ALL!

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $11000

A+ was great to work with when we first started- very responsive and made some great sounding initial estimates of what our move might cost; however after they received our deposit, things changed drastically- most importantly they violated their own contract by not providing us with an updated estimate based off a visual assessment of what we’d be moving, despite me even asking about this particular aspect- all we got was a rushed phone call almost a month before our move date asking us to provide details of what would be moved, long before we had time to even estimate how many boxes we would have, etc. Efforts to reach out to both employees I had worked with proved futile. In the end the actual movers (from another company) showed up 2.5 hours after their estimated 4 hour arrival window on the evening of the last day of our lease- and by the time our items were packed we were given the actual price- over TWICE the original estimate. At this point we really had no choice- we had to have our stuff out of the house and basically felt bullied and cornered into paying. I have tried to contact them twice since this happened over email to resolve this issue, however they continue to ignore me. I am preparing to take legal action at this point unless they contact me to resolve.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $7000

I did weeks of research, trying to find the best national moving company available. The one who WOULDN'T scam me. And I thought A Plus Moving Solutions was that company, but I was sadly mistaken. They WILL scam you just like all the rest! The service, price, and everything else was great until 3 days before the move. 3 days, which was the very moment that my cancellation window closed in order to get any of my deposit back (over 2 thousand dollars). Suddenly, someone within the company I had never spoken with before (Clark), called me on a Saturday morning and told me that my estimate was too low and that if we didn't raise it, they may have to leave some of my stuff behind. So he raised my amount of stuff by 1/3 but the total price by over 3x... how does the math on that even make sense at all!? Fortunately for me I already had my belongings in a storage unit, so I called them and found out exactly how many cubic feet my stuff was, and when I called A Plus back to notify them Clark never answered any of my calls. He completely ghosted me, as did the original guy who took the reservation (Jake). Then after I emailed that this felt like I was being scammed and wanted an immediate refund, Jake got back to me and said it was out of business hours (their website says they're open on Saturdays) and that we were too close to the pickup date for me to get any of my deposit back. Even though Clark called me "outside of business hours" to jack up my rate to an insane level (19 thousand dollars), no one could be reached to address my issue with this. Finally, after going back and forth with Jake for over 36 hours via email, he said no refund would be given because we were within that 3 day window. They just made themselves over 2 thousand dollars for providing absolutely no service whatsoever! A pretty good score to keep the scam going. Beware that this company cannot be trusted to keep their word and not screw you out of your deposit too! My suggestion... if it's a local move, hire a local company... and if it's a national move, do it yourself!

I was scam out of my deposit because I refused movers service because the estimate increased almost $2000 because the 3rd party movers at there discretion said my queen size bedroom set was oversized. Nothing changed from my inventory that I told my terrible rep JAKE WILSON…….I was also hung up on and phone number blocked by them……. I recorded several minutes of there conversation and It’s the same problem with others………..DO NOT USE THEM it’s all a game to them……. I filed a complaint with the BBB ……. They will keep reverting back to the return policy which is a form of entrapment……… you lose your deposit if the movers arrive and the problem is after the movers arrive………… A Plus Movers keep your deposit without doing anything to earn it

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $5300

This company is rude and extremely unprofessional! We cannot get ahold of our movers and when we've called the broker for help, they are unwilling to help. They are scammers and will purposely under-quote you to get your business. Typical bait and switch move. We finished our cross country move a week and a half ago and still do not have our belongings. They are a broker and once the 3rd party company has your belongings, A Plus is no longer willing to help. The 3rd party company (Balance Movers) will not return our calls or texts and we have no idea when we will be getting our belongings. They put our stuff in storage 5 hours away, even though they told us it would be put in storage in our destination city. They put the storage unit in their names and will not give us any info on it or access to it.

Move size: 4+ Bedroom Home Service cost: $7000

DO NOT US THIS COMPANY. They are very unprofessional and are extremely rude and dishonest. We we're first quoted $3,200 it has gone up at least three times before the final total now we are paying about $15,000. Would not answer any calls and when they do it seems our stuff magically gets pushed back a couple weeks. They keep saying they have 30 business days to get it on a truck, but when moving our stuff, they failed to get it onto a truck before the 30 business days. It's been over 45 regular days and we haven't seen our stuff since. Now the truck driver is stating he's possibly foreseeing he won't be able to get the truck onto the street and a "shuttling fee" is necessary/required and that's another $300. If you use this company, there is a guarantee you will 1. pay may more than they "quote" you 2. will not answer calls or texts and if they do and you complain they will make it sound like it's your fault 3. always try to find something to make the total amount more 4. lie straight to your face 5. no updates are ever given. Well as of the moment we still don't have our stuff and we don't know if things are broken/damaged or missing. Also, their "crating" is far from OKAY they use blankets, plastic wrap, and cardboard. Also, when the movers showed up, they used stickers to keep track of box numbers but ran out of number stickers more than halfway through, so we think we are going to be missing the items they didn't hit with stickers.

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $15000

This was an terrible experience. The mover showed up 2 days late, they kept raising the price after first hooking you in with a low estimate, and they do not answer or return phone calls. They seem to be a middle man. Book direct with a mover- this company is a huge waste of money and the whole experience was stressful and annoying. If I could, I'd give them a negative 5 stars! I was assured that they would give me some kind of discount as compensation for their mistake in pick-up dates, but they never did. In fact the manager never called me back. Miserable experience.

Move size: Studio Service cost: $3000

In March I began searching for a company to help me move from Idaho to Wisconsin, and was contacted by Peter from "A Plus". He gave a pretty good pitch and offered a pretty good estimate. He gave me a total estimate of $5456.43, which was pretty comparable to other estimates we had gotten. This estimate was locked in with an initial payment of $1478.88, and I was told that the rest would be collected in two more payments directly to the movers; one at pickup, and one at delivery. I got a call a few days before the move from "John" to go over a final inventory and lock in pricing. He seemed very rushed through the whole call, and asked about only a few specific things. He seemed surprised at the things he asked about, because they were larger items and I hadn't been charged a "bulking fee" for them. Apparently this is a fee used to lock in the space needed, and the physical effort used to load those things. He then sent me another contract, with $2000 added on, and wanted to collect half of that in the moment. $2k seems like a lot of money for the 50 cubes of extra space he gave me, so I asked about it and was told that he was reserving the whole truck for me. I questioned him about it quite a bit, and he stated several times that he was reserving the whole truck for me so that there wouldn't be any problems on moving day. He seemed sure that the movers wouldn't use all that space, and that my final payment would be much less because of the unused space. The movers told me that he only reserved half the truck. When I called to question him about it, he said that the movers should have plenty of space, and if they don't to just give him a call and he would take care of it. When they ran out of space, I tried to call John, but it seems that he blocked me, because none of my calls will go through. I called the company directly, but have been sent directly to voicemail. I left a message explaining things, but haven't heard anything yet. When I tried calling today, it seems like I'm blocked from that number as well.

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $7456

My THREE flights were canceled due to bad weather from Brooklyn, NY to Dallas. I contacted A Plus to keep them informed on my situation and needed to rebook for the second time (due to flight cancelations) . The driver Caesar told me that he will not do business with me, bc of me canceling twice. I stated to him that I have already paid and he can reimburse my money back. He told me he is not going to give me my money back, bc I am doing this on purpose just to get my money back and he then hung up the phone.. I have no control over mother nature and I'm just trying to get my furniture! Not to mention the quality assurance guy was very unprofessional and rude.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $664

I scheduled a move with them and they GROSSLY underestimated the volume I had. Someone called 2 days before the move for “quality control” and said given my inventory, it would cost about twice as much. This company had no intention of moving the inventory I outlined for the price they quoted, so I cancelled my move with them. I have been unable to reach them to have my $1033 deposit refunded, not to mention associated costs of living when a move is delayed. They were unresponsive to the Better Business Bureau. This company is a scam.

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $4900

I spoke to these guys and they gave me the “minimum” quote because he said “Peter Friedman” that I wouldn’t even use that much space. I saw bad reviews, one mentioned peter even but he lied about it saying they had problems and that’s why they were “complaining”. Day of moving a new company comes in and I find out that the same stuff that’s on contract is gonna cost me 3x as much.. do not get yourself in this problem of a company please!! Save yourself the headache! They won’t even reply to you after deposit is there’s! Please do not do it they are just fake brokers not the moving company itself.. I really am helping you from having a bad day and paying more money than expected!!! Peter Friedman is the worst liar and his company is a big scam.. it’s my fault I didn’t listen to the comments.. the good ones are all fake I promise if you work with this company you WILL regret it.. if I can give em a zero star I would.. absolute worst! Preying on people in the worst of time

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $5700

We contacted and choose this service due to advertising of being Veteran friendly. This company was anything but. Our original estimate was for $4600 for 700 cubic square feet, two weeks before our move we added 100 more cubic square feet, and our price went to $8600. On the day they were supposed to move, they called another one of there customers for that day, that they had already picked up, instead of our number. So after not showing to pick up our move, we called them, and they apologized for the mix up, and sent a service 6 hours late. They informed us that our items totaled 1800 cubic square feet, and increased our cost to $14,600. Our items were all boxed, and was clear our cubic square feet didn’t justify this increase, as we had only 800-900 cubic square feet. They refused to pick up our items unless we agreed to the 1800, and increase in the cost to $14,600 from the original $4600. They left our home, and we were left to figure out our move on our own. They took a $2000 deposit, which they refused to refund after they performed no services for us, and we were left to file complaints with the BBB after they refused to take our calls. They still will not return our calls, and I just want other customers and Veteran's not to be scammed by this company. They told us they were 5 star rated with the BBB, however after checking with the BBB, this company has a 1 star rating, and an F rating with their company. Company’s that pray on our Vets have no business in the business sector, and should be jailed in my opinion. Hopefully I can save someone else from the headache of this business. Take the estimate they give you and double it. A Plus is a broker that hires out the worst of the worst moving companies, who stole $15K worth of my stuff.APlus set me up with a moving company that doesn’t even have a website. Find a moving company that actually has an insurance policy that covers your items. It is worth it to pay a little extra instead of ending up like me and paying almost $20K including everything they stole from me. Please take my advice and go anywhere else. Steer clear of these scum bags.

They quoted $2800 to move from IN to AZ. The driver showed up and said it would be $5800 and they still could not take all of my stuff. I closed on my house on a Friday. I was told they would be at the location that day. Saturday I called asking when it would be here. The guy said they were 2 hours away. 4 hours later they call and said they did not load my stuff and that they would deliver it in 5 days. The guy got snippy with me and said by law they have 21 days to deliver my stuff. So they ripped me off by giving a low quote and getting the deposit money from me and then now I have to live 2 weeks in an empty house. DO NOT HIRE THESE SCAMMERS.

I should have read its bad review before I hired them to move my furniture from Charlotte to Seattle.

I paid them $12000 in total. The shipment was delayed about 10 days to arrive and I was told I can deduct $200

from the remaining balance upon delivery and the rest to submit the claim. During the delivery the movers got into an argument with the driver and left abruptly without completion of the job. they simply dumped many things in our garage. I filed a claim notice for the following: a missing extendable ladder, a broken office chair wheel, a broken night stand, an incomplete delivery, scratches on my table and china and wrinkles on my leather sofa due to high temperature in the truck and long moving time. The claim process took about three months and the reimbursement is only $150 and I essentially was offered "take or leave it" attitude. I took it since I know this will be all I get unless I sue them which I do not have time and effort to do so. Anyway it was simply a nightmare!!!
